Working with sound

Developing your knowledge, skills and understanding in using sound

These materials will help you to understand the technical and curriculum requirements linked with the theme of sound.

If you are new to this theme you might like to start by learning about how sound is recorded and the different file types used for doing so. There are three sections that can help you with this.

  • About sound: By playing files in different formats you will come to appreciate the need for saving in specific formats that differ according to the intended use.
  • About podcasts: If you want to publish your sound files, you should produce a podcast – this has further technical implications.
  • How to manipulate sound: If you have never recorded sound files, or imported them, the guidance in this area will help you get started.

It is helpful to work through these in order. However, if you already have some understanding in this area, choose a chapter to find material relevant to your needs.
