These materials support learning and teaching for bilingual children who are conversationally fluent in English. The resource provides a range of strategies for developing speaking and listening as a tool for learning English, as well as the curriculum. It also suggests approaches for using children’s first language to provide access to the curriculum, and strategies for developing reading comprehension as well as writing.
This publication provides exemplification of the strategies. Guidance is also given on developing an inclusive curriculum to support learning and teaching. This resource is intended to increase the expertise and confidence of mainstream practitioners in teaching children and supporting schools in raising standards for their bilingual learners.
