The objectives of this unit are to:

  • increase participants' understanding of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks and processes of their formation
  • explore methods of teaching the rock cycle
  • increase confidence in teaching these processes
  • enhance participants' understanding about the different aspects of scientific enquiry
  • gain experience of the variety of enquiry in the context of geological changes that can be taught to pupils
  • enlarge participants' repertoire of teaching activities and resources
  • determine priorities and actions for follow-up in school

All of the handouts in the participants' packs are contained on the CD-ROM. There are a number of handouts which supply answers to the tasks in the training and have not been contained in these packs to avoid invalidating the task. Thus handouts 3.13, 3.28, 3.31 and 3.32 are only contained in the tutors notes. However, we are including them here for ease of use.
