The Framework sets out a long-term plan which covers Key Stage 3 and each year within it. The plans are illustrations of how medium-term plans (units) and short-term plans might be built around Framework objectives. The sample unit plan is set out in a format similar to that used in the DCSF/QCDA Design and technology at Key Stage 3: Scheme of Work (link opens in new window). Other formats might be used by teachers wishing to strengthen current schemes of work, or published course materials, by overlaying them with the Framework objectives.
