Download publicationThis suite of guidance, training and support materials has been designed to help schools develop Assessment for Learning (AfL) across the whole school, i.e. teachers working collaboratively within and across departments to develop practice. The training units are generic.
Units 1 and 2 provide an overview of AfL, and units 3–7 each focus on a different aspect of AfL. Subject-specific development materials (covering all National Curriculum subjects) relating to each of units 3–7 are provided to help subject departments develop their practice as part of a whole-school AfL approach.
Two self-study style 'Working together' guides are also included:
- Working together: Coaching and Assessment for Learning (Ref: 1100-2005G) is intended to support pairs or groups of teachers wishing to develop their expertise in coaching.
- Working together: Teaching assistants and Assessment for Learning (Ref: 1099-2005G) is intended to help develop the role of teaching assistants and support AfL in the classroom.
More information about the whole suite of AfL materials can be found in the introductory 'Guidance for senior leaders'.
Portions of this pack were replaced in 2005 in the 2nd edition (Ref: 1115-2005). These replacements have already been incorporated into this pack. The following AfL resources were also produced to accompany the second edition:
