The Every Child a Reader (ECaR) programme involves training of 'Reading
Recovery' teachers who deliver daily one-to-one reading recovery
teaching for children with the most severe difficulties. These teachers
also provide training, coaching and support to other adults (usually
teaching assistants) who deliver lighter-touch interventions such as
Fischer Family Trust Wave 3, Better Reading Partnership and Early
Literacy Support (ELS) for children with less-severe needs.
The toolkit will provide advice and guidance on how to introduce and implement the effective rollout of ECaR.
ECaR works best where it is seen as a school improvement strategy that can impact on all children, rather than just an intervention for children with the greatest difficulties.
