Guide to interactive teaching programs (ITPs)
A guide to the primary mathematics interactive teaching programs (ITPs), which are for use with whiteboards and computers. They provide and interactive multisensory way of teaching key concepts in primary mathematics. This guide gives a detailed overview of each of the teaching programs, and includes screenshots and instructions on how to use them.

Mathematics ITP: Area
The Area interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of number, shape and space and problem solving. Area ITP (version 2.2) allows the child or teacher to place counters or colour in whole or part cells on a grid, pinboard or blank screen, or to define a shape using a rubber band. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.

Mathematics ITP: Bead sticks
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of place value. Bead sticks ITP (version 9) allows the child or teacher to represent numbers (up to four-digits) and explore addition and subtraction. An animation demonstrates the process of grouping and exchange. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.
-
Mathematics ITP: Calculating angles
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of angles. Calculating angles ITP allows the child or teacher to represent single or multiple shapes rotated around a central point in one, two or four quadrants. The size of angles can be estimated or calculated and confirmed using the on-screen protractor or reveal function. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.
-
Mathematics ITP: Coordinates
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of coordinates. Coordinates ITP allows the child or teacher to use a marker to identify the coordinates of points on different grids, mark points and draw lines and shapes, working in one, two or four quadrants to introduce both positive and negative coordinates. The ITP can also be used to explore the properties of 2-D shapes and to predict translations, rotations and reflections of various shapes in the different quadrants. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.

Mathematics ITP: Counting
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of early number. Counting ITP allows the child or teacher to place a number of objects on the screen and move the objects to group them, drag them onto a number line, into a hoop to create sets of objects or into a 10 by 10 grid. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.
-
Mathematics ITP: Counting on and back
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of numbers to 100 through the simulation of a 100-bead string. Counting on and back ITP allows the teacher or child to add and subtract 1 or 10 to explore different counting and calculation strategies. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.
-
Mathematics ITP: Data handling
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of data. Data handling ITP allows the child or teacher to enter data into a table and then create a vertical bar chart, a horizontal bar chart or a pie chart. The user can select from existing datasets, which can then be amended to show the impact and change on the charts, or they can enter collected data. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.

Mathematics ITP: Decimal number line
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of place value within whole and decimal numbers. Decimal number line ITP allows the child or teacher to select an interval from a given number line and show that interval divided into ten equal parts but on a bigger scale, which can then be repeated. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.
-
Mathematics ITP: Difference
This interactive teaching program (ITP) is an ICT-based tool to support the exploration of number. Difference ITP allows the child or teacher to compare two rows of beads and to analyse the calculations they can represent. It can be used to promote the language of addition and subtraction. The ITP operates as a series of animations which show how the rows of beads can be represented by two number lines and then as a single number line with the difference indicated by a jump. The application (in a variety of formats) and guidance for using the application (as PDF or Word file) can be downloaded from this page.
