Mathematics subject leader development meetings: Summer 2008

The Secondary National Strategy aims to keep mathematics subject leaders up-to-date with the National Strategy, in order help them make best use of the extensivematerials already published and support them in their crucial work of leading changes with colleagues in their department.

The spring 2008 subject leader development meeting (SLDM) was devoted to the launch of the Framework for secondary mathematics and the Secondary mathematics planning toolkit. In this meeting subject leaders received the Key Stage 3 mathematics planning handbook to guide them on how to use of the Framework and the Secondary mathematics planning toolkit to support short and long term plans for developing their schemes of work. Together, these resources enable a subject leader to support changes to planning, teaching and learning, so that the aims of the new programme of study are met and progress through the key stage is improved for all pupils.
